Rhine odds for this week rise to 70 percent

Rain reached the Alpine headwaters above Chur and Basel yesterday, 8.8 millimeters where 2.9 is normal, and the Lower Rhine at Lobith came up with it. The chance of a Rhine sailing day going as planned this week is now 70 percent, up from 55 percent yesterday. The river is still at low water for October, which usually means ships carry lighter loads or run a coach around one shallow stretch. The Danube at Budapest edged up too, and its week moved to 19 percent as planned from 3 percent.
