Rhine steady at 283 centimeters at Maxau
The Rhine stopped falling at Maxau, holding at 283 centimeters, and this week's odds of a sailing day going as planned rose from 5 percent to 12. About 29 millimeters of rain is due in the Alpine headwaters over the next seven days, a little above normal for October. Rhine water levels are still below where ships start having difficulty, which in practice means lighter loading, or a coach around a shallow stretch to a sister ship. The Danube at Budapest fell again, with 2 percent of days going as planned this week.
