Rhine at Kaub comes up three centimeters

Rain reached the Alpine headwaters above Chur and Basel yesterday, 9.1 millimeters where 3.1 is normal, and Kaub came up three centimeters overnight to read minus one. The Rhine is still at low water, with this week's chance of sailing as planned at 1 percent, though the outlook eases to 45 percent in November and 63 percent in December. On the ground that usually means a ship loaded lighter, or a coach around the shallow stretch to a sister ship. The Danube at Pfelling slipped a centimeter to 205, and October there stands at 15 percent as planned.
