Rhine drops to 8 centimeters at Kaub

The Danube came up a centimeter overnight at Pfelling, its first gain there in several days. The Rhine went the other way, down to 8 centimeters at Kaub, and 1 percent of sailing days this week are expected to go as planned. Low water on the Rhine usually means a ship carries less weight, or passengers coach past the shallow stretch to a sister ship waiting on the far side. The Alpine headwaters have no rain forecast for the next seven days, against a normal 26 millimeters.
