River Water Watch

The morning note

Rhine came up at Lobith overnight

The Rhine came up at Lobith overnight, flow going from 552 to 588, and the Alpine headwaters are due slightly more rain this week than October normally brings. Both the Rhine and the Danube are still below the level where ships start having difficulty, and for river cruise sailings this week the chance of going as planned is 1 percent on the Rhine and 6 percent on the Danube. In practice that usually means lighter loading, or a swap to a sister ship past the shallow stretch with a coach in between. November water levels on the Rhine sit at 44 percent as planned.

This was the picture on Sunday, October 4, 2026. The water moves daily, so if you are planning a cruise, start with today's check for your own dates rather than an older note.
